LEGAL ASSOCIATE (LITIGATION)

About the Role
Sophie Michaels Consulting (SMC) is recruiting on behalf of our client a faith-based prison ministry and legal aid organization committed to justice, rehabilitation, and inmate reintegration. We are seeking a highly driven Legal Associate with a strong criminal litigation mindset and hands-on police matter experience to lead case reviews, manage criminal defense matters, and actively engage in prison and police station interventions.

This role is ideal for a passionate lawyer who desires to combine legal excellence with social impact, working directly with inmates, police officers, and court systems to ensure access to justice and due process.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, manage, and prosecute criminal litigation matters from the police station to the court.
• Handle police station representations, bail applications, and suspect interventions.
• Visit police stations and detention facilities for suspect interviews and legal assessments.
• Conduct prison visits to review inmate cases and identify actionable legal interventions.
• Draft legal documents, including petitions, motions, bail applications, court processes, and advisory opinions.
• Liaise with law enforcement agencies, correctional officers, prosecutors, and courts.
• Represent clients in court for criminal defense proceedings and bail hearings.
• Maintain proper case documentation, reporting, and legal compliance.
• Support prison outreach programs and legal sensitization initiatives.
• Uphold the organization’s mission, ethics, and humanitarian objectives.
