Indigenous Marine Logistics Company – Lagos

Reports to: Executive Chairman

Start: April 2026

Position Summary

Strategic legal leadership across legal, regulatory, compliance, and corporate governance matters for a leading indigenous marine logistics company in Nigeria’s blue economy. The role safeguards corporate interests while enabling sustainable growth.

 

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Governance

Organise & manage Board/Committee meetings

Advise Board on governance codes & statutory duties

Custodian of documents, registers & governance policies

Regulatory & Compliance

Ensure compliance with local & international maritime laws

Monitor legislative changes; advise management

Oversee statutory filings, permits & licences

Develop comprehensive legal risk framework

Dispute & Litigation

Manage all litigation, arbitration & disputes

Coordinate with external counsel & regulators

Represent company in high-level negotiations & settlements

Legal Advisory & Stakeholder Management

Advise Board & Executive Chairman on corporate, commercial, maritime, labour & environmental law

Foster relationships with regulators, maritime authorities & host communities

Develop CSR framework

Contract Management

Oversee drafting & review of all contracts

Implement company-wide contract management system & archive

Knowledge, Skills & KPIs

Knowledge & Skills

Deep knowledge of Oil & Gas/Maritime industry

Contract negotiation & drafting

Board-level communication

MS Office proficiency

Research skills

Discretion & confidentiality

Autonomous, initiative-driven under tight deadlines

Key Performance Indicators

Quality of Board support

Zero regulatory breaches

Litigation success rate

Contract negotiation & drafting success rate

 

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

LL.M (minimum 2nd class upper)

10–13 years post-call experience

5+ years at Senior level

ICSAN membership (advantage)

Proven Board advisory & corporate governance experience

Strong communication, presentation & ability to execute under pressure
