Job Description

Position Summary

  • The Contract Specialist is responsible for drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and managing contracts related to shipyard fabrication projects in Nigeria.
  • This includes agreements for steel structures, offshore platforms, FPSO modules, and marine vessels.
  • The role ensures that all contractual obligations are met in accordance with Nigerian regulations, client requirements, and international maritime standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts for fabrication, procurement, and subcontracting
  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian maritime laws, NCDMB (Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board) guidelines, and international standards (e.g., ABS, DNV)
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, procurement, and legal teams to align contract terms with technical scopes
  • Track contract milestones, deliverables, and variations
  • Manage claims, change orders, and dispute resolution processes
  • Maintain accurate contract records and support audits or regulatory inspections
  • Advise stakeholders on contractual risks and mitigation strategies.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Engineering, Maritime Studies, or related field
  • 3 – 7  years of experience in contract management within shipbuilding, offshore fabrication, or oil & gas projects in Nigeria
  • Certification in contract or project management (e.g., IACCM, PMP) is an advantage
  • Knowledge of local regulatory bodies such as NIMASA, NCDMB, and DPR is preferred.

Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of shipyard operations, fabrication processes, and marine engineering terminology
  • Familiarity with Nigerian oil & gas and maritime contracting frameworks (e.g., NAPIMS, NIPEX, LOGIC)
  • Proficiency in contract law, negotiation, and risk management
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Competency in contract management software and Microsoft Office tools.
