Senior Legal Associate (Fintech/Payments)

Our client is a technology company solving payments problems for businesses across Africa. The team is seeking a Senior Legal Associate to ensure products and business operations comply with laws, ethics, and best practices. Reporting to the Head of Legal, this hands-on role involves managing contracts, corporate governance, legal operations, litigation support, and regulatory advisory in a regulated, high-growth environment.

Key Responsibilities

• ​Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including merchant agreements, partner agreements, NDAs, and vendor agreements.
• ​Develop and maintain contract templates, clause libraries, playbooks, and audit-ready contract repositories.
• ​Lead corporate governance and board activities, draft resolutions, and coordinate committee meetings and schedules.
• ​Support litigation, dispute management, and external counsel coordination while providing early risk assessments.
• ​Manage trademarks, IP registrations, renewals, and draft cease-and-desist communications for IP infringements.
• ​Design, implement, and optimize legal workflows, intake processes, legal technology (CLM systems), and automation initiatives.
• ​Track legal billing, budgets, and spend, and maintain dashboards/reports on contract volumes and litigation risk exposure.
• ​Ensure regulatory compliance across fintech and payments operations and provide day-to-day legal advisory to cross-functional teams.
• ​Support internal training, legal research, vendor onboarding, and special business projects.
