The Opportunity: Legal Officer

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Legal Officer to join our team in Abuja. This is a pivotal full-time role where you will provide comprehensive legal counsel and strategic support directly to our Executive Management and various departments. You will be instrumental in ensuring legal compliance, managing complex contracts, resolving disputes, and safeguarding the organization's interests across our diverse portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal advice and strategic guidance to Executive Management and various departments, including Sales, Marketing, Business Development, HR/Admin, Finance/Accounts, and Project Teams.

Contract Management & Drafting: Draft, review, and negotiate a broad spectrum of legal documents, including real estate transaction agreements, construction contracts, land acquisition deeds, corporate governance policies, and other commercial agreements.

Regulatory Compliance: Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis to ensure full compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards affecting our operations in real estate, construction, hospitality, fintech, and investments.

Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate legal risks, developing robust strategies to prevent and resolve potential issues across all business units.

Litigation & Dispute Resolution: Manage and oversee all litigation and dispute resolution processes, effectively collaborating with external legal counsel and representing the company in negotiations and settlements.

Policy Development: Contribute to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s legal policies, procedures, and best practices.

Legislative Monitoring: Stay abreast of legislative changes, evolving industry practices, and regulatory updates to ensure the organization's ongoing compliance and strategic advantage.

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from an accredited institution.

A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., BL, ICSAN, ACIS) will be a significant advantage.

A minimum of two (2) years of proven post-call experience as a Legal Officer or in a similar corporate legal role, with a demonstrable track record specifically within the real estate and construction sector.

Extensive knowledge of Nigerian real estate law, construction regulations, land acquisition procedures, and relevant commercial legislation.

Skills & Competencies

Exceptional skills in legal drafting, analytical reasoning, problem-solving, and negotiation.

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.

Proficiency in legal research and the effective use of various legal databases and software applications.

Ability to provide clear, concise, and practical legal advice to non-legal stakeholders.

High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
