Job Description

Job Summary

  • The Legal Officer will provide legal advisory support to Hoop Telecoms Limited, ensuring full compliance with Nigerian laws, telecoms regulations, contractual obligations, and corporate governance standards.
  • The role requires strong experience within the telecommunications sector, as the officer will handle regulatory filings, site agreements, contract drafting, dispute resolution, vendor negotiations, and industry-specific compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities
Legal Advisory & Compliance:

  • Provide legal opinions on telecoms operations, infrastructure projects, enterprise services, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure company compliance with NCC regulations, NITDA guidelines, labour laws, tax legislation, and other applicable statutes.
  • Prepare and review regulatory submissions, licenses, permits, and documentation required by government agencies.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory changes affecting telecoms operations and advise management accordingly.

Contract Drafting & Review:

  • Draft, vet, and negotiate contracts, including:
  • Fibre deployment agreements
  • Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Lease/Colocation site agreements
  • Vendor and supplier contracts
  • NDAs, MDAs, and partnership agreements
  • Ensure all contracts protect the company’s interests and reflect industry standards.

Dispute Resolution & Litigation Management:

  • Manage internal and external disputes related to telecoms services, customer complaints, and operational issues.
  • Liaise with external solicitors and monitor litigation processes.
  • Prepare case files, evidence, and documentation for legal proceedings.

Corporate Governance:

  • Support board activities, prepare board resolutions, and maintain statutory records.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate governance codes and internal policies.
  • Participate in policy creation and audits relating to Legal & Compliance.

Operational Support:

  • Support cross-functional teams (Sales, Technology, Finance, HR) with legal guidance.
  • Review marketing materials, proposals, and tender documents to ensure legal accuracy.
  • Provide legal support for site acquisitions, ROW (Right of Way) matters, and infrastructure expansion projects.
  • Draft and manage letters, legal correspondence, and compliance notices

Requirements

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of the Nigerian telecoms regulatory environment (NCC, NITDA, Federal and State Laws).
  • Excellent knowledge of contract law, corporate law, commercial law, and labour law.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Solid research skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • High level of integrity, ethical behaviour, and confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Barrister at Law (BL).
  • 4–5 years post-call legal experience.
  • Mandatory: Proven experience working in a telecommunications company or telecoms-related legal practice.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies (Nigerian Bar Association; additional certifications in telecoms law are an advantage).

  • Timely delivery of legal opinions and contract reviews.
  • Accuracy and completeness of regulatory filings.
  • Reduction in operational and legal risks.
  • Effective closure of disputes and legal cases.
  • Compliance rate with NCC and NITDA regulations.
