About Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE)

Widows and Orphans Empowerment Organization (WEWE) is a leading not-for-profit, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) dedicated to empowering vulnerable widows and orphans. Founded in 2004 by Josephine Ogazi and Joseph Egwuonwu, WEWE began as a Community-Based Organisation providing scholarships and economic empowerment in Okigwe, Imo State. Since then, it has significantly expanded its aims and objectives, growing into a nationally registered NGO (CAC/IT/NO33132) with a broader reach and impact across Nigeria.

The Opportunity: Legal Associate

WEWE is seeking a passionate and dedicated Legal Associate to join our dynamic team in Abuja. This is an entry-level, full-time position offering a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to our mission by providing essential legal support across our programs and operations. The Legal Associate will play a crucial role in ensuring WEWE's compliance with legal frameworks, supporting our advocacy efforts, and safeguarding the legal interests of the organization and the communities we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct comprehensive legal research on relevant national and international laws, policies, and regulations pertaining to NGOs, human rights, child protection, social welfare, and other areas pertinent to WEWE's mission.

Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various legal documents, including contracts, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), partnership agreements, internal policies, and legal correspondence.

Support the organization's compliance efforts with local laws, donor requirements, and internal governance frameworks and procedures.

Provide legal guidance and support to program teams on project implementation, beneficiary rights, risk mitigation strategies, and ethical considerations.

Assist in the preparation of legal opinions, reports, presentations, and other communication materials for internal and external stakeholders.

Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential legal records, databases, and documentation.

Contribute to the development and delivery of legal awareness training sessions for staff and, where appropriate, for beneficiaries.

Support the legal team in any litigation or dispute resolution processes, as required.

This role is ideal for an ambitious legal professional eager to make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable populations and contribute to a cause-driven organization.
