Job Summary

Kennedia Consulting Limited (KCL), a leading recruitment firm, is exclusively mandated to source a highly accomplished and strategic Chief Legal Officer (CLO) for our esteemed client, a dynamic and diversified financial services group. Based in Abuja, this full-time senior leadership role is pivotal in shaping the organization's legal strategy, ensuring robust regulatory compliance, and upholding exemplary corporate governance across multiple business units. The CLO will serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, mitigating legal risks and enabling strategic business growth.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Legal Leadership: Develop, implement, and lead the overall legal strategy, aligning it with the group's business objectives and risk appetite. Provide expert, proactive legal counsel and strategic guidance to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior management on a broad range of legal, regulatory, and business matters.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management: Oversee and ensure comprehensive compliance with all applicable financial services regulations, industry standards, and corporate policies across diverse business units (e.g., banking, insurance, asset management). Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks, developing robust frameworks and controls to safeguard the organization's interests.

Corporate Governance & Transactions: Manage all aspects of corporate governance, ensuring adherence to best practices and statutory requirements. Oversee the drafting, negotiation, and review of complex contracts, agreements, and transactional documents. Direct and manage all litigation, disputes, and regulatory inquiries effectively.

Stakeholder Management & External Relations: Cultivate and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with external legal counsel, regulatory bodies, and other key stakeholders. Represent the company in legal proceedings and interactions with regulatory authorities.

Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing legal team, fostering a culture of excellence, integrity, and continuous professional growth.
