  • Lead and manage all legal, regulatory, and company secretarial functions, providing strategic guidance to the executive team and Board.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust corporate governance frameworks and policies in line with best practices.
  • Ensure comprehensive compliance with all relevant local and international laws, regulations, and industry standards pertaining to the energy sector and corporate operations.
  • Manage legal risks, oversee litigation, and provide expert legal counsel on all corporate matters, contracts, and commercial agreements.
  • Oversee the acquisition of all necessary licenses, permits, and regulatory approvals for the refinery project, ensuring timely and compliant execution.
  • Act as Company Secretary, ensuring statutory compliance, effective board administration, and meticulous record-keeping.
  • Advise on corporate transactions, mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized university.
  • Called to the Bar in Nigeria (or equivalent legal professional qualification from a relevant jurisdiction).
  • Membership of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) or an equivalent professional body is highly desirable.
  • Extensive progressive experience (typically 15+ years) in legal and regulatory affairs, with a significant portion at a senior or executive leadership level.
  • Proven track record of success in the downstream energy, oil & gas, or large-scale industrial project sector is essential.
  • Deep expertise in corporate law, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and company secretarial practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex legal and regulatory landscapes, particularly in a developing project environment.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and effectively in a remote capacity during initial project phases.
