Job Description

The Legal Officer will provide legal leadership and support to the College, advising Management and the Governing Council on legal, regulatory and institutional matters. The role also involves litigation, contract review, regulatory compliance and liaison with external counsel and government agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice to Management and the Governing Council.
  • Represent the College in litigation and other legal proceedings.
  • Draft, review and vet contracts, agreements, MOUs and other legal documents.
  • Advise on the legal implications of policies, contracts and institutional decisions.
  • Provide guidance on procurement, contractual and regulatory matters.
  • Liaise with external counsel and regulatory agencies.
  • Support the College on legal and institutional compliance matters.

Requirements

  • LL.B from a recognised university.
  • BL from the Nigerian Law School and admission to the Nigerian Bar.
  • Current Nigerian Bar Association practising status and a valid practising certificate.
  • At least 7 years' post-call cognate experience.
  • A Master's degree in Law is an added advantage.
  • Experience in a tertiary institution is an advantage, particularly knowledge of institutional administration and NBTE/NUC compliance.
  • Experience in labour and employment matters, including staff discipline, industrial relations and representation before the National Industrial Court, is required.
