Job Summary

The Corporate Lawyer is responsible for overseeing all legal matters of the company, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, minimizing legal risks, managing contracts, and providing strategic legal advice to management in support of business operations and growth within the manufacturing sector.

Key Responsibilities

1. Regulatory & Compliance Management

• Ensure full compliance with NAFDAC, SON, CAC, MAN, NESREA and other regulatory bodies.

• Monitor changes in laws affecting manufacturing, labor, environmental, and safety regulations.

• Handle regulatory filings, inspections, and documentation reviews.

• Liaise with government agencies when required.

2. Contract Drafting & Review

• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts including:

• Distributor agreements

• Supplier contracts

• Transport/logistics agreements

• Lease agreements

• Employment contracts

• Service agreements

• Ensure contractual terms protect company interest and reduce exposure to risk.

3. Litigation & Dispute Management

• Manage legal disputes, claims, and recovery matters.

• Coordinate with external solicitors when litigation arises.

• Handle insurance claims and settlement negotiations.

• Advise management on legal risks before decisions are taken.

4. Employment & Labour Law

• Provide legal guidance on:

• Staff termination

• Disciplinary actions

• Queries and warning letters

• Labour disputes

• Ensure HR policies align with Nigerian labour laws.

• Represent company in labour-related matters if necessary.

5. Risk Management & Advisory

• Identify potential legal risks in operations.

• Provide legal opinions on new projects, investments, and partnerships.

• Protect company intellectual property (trademarks, brand names, packaging rights).

• Oversee documentation relating to land/property acquisitions.

7. Policy Development

• Develop and review company policies:

• Compliance policy

• Anti-theft policy

• Procurement policy

• Safety and risk policies

• Ensure policies are legally sound and enforceable.

Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements

• LLB (Bachelor of Laws)

• BL (Called to Nigerian Bar)

• 3–5 years proven corporate legal experience

• Experience in manufacturing or FMCG industry is an advantage

• Strong drafting and negotiation skills

• Excellent analytical and advisory skills

• High level of integrity and confidentiality

Key Competencies

• Strong computer skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Strong understanding of Nigerian corporate and regulatory law

• Contract negotiation expertise

• Risk assessment ability

• Attention to detail

• Ability to handle confidential matters

• Good communication and advisory skills

• Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Reduction in legal disputes

• Zero regulatory penalties

• Timely contract reviews

• Effective risk mitigation ,Compliance audit success
