About the scholarship
The Gates Cambridge Scholarship is a prestigious fully funded scholarship for postgraduate study at the University of Cambridge.
- Joint University Application: You apply for the scholarship simultaneously when submitting your application for admission to Cambridge via the University Postgraduate Admissions Portal.
- Gates Cambridge Statement: Requires a dedicated 500-word personal statement explaining why you are applying for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship and how you meet the four main criteria.
- Extra Reference: In addition to the standard two academic references for Cambridge admission, you must submit a third reference specifically for the scholarship.
Fields of Study: All Fields / Open Discipline. Course coverage includes almost any full-time postgraduate degree (MPhil, MRes, LLM, or PhD) offered at the University of Cambridge.
Law Options: Fully supports Cambridge's flagship Master of Law (LL.M.), Master of Corporate Law (MCL), MPhil in Criminology, and PhD in Legal Studies.
Exceptions: Excludes non-degree courses (PGCert/PGDip), part-time Master's, MBAs, or Doctor of Business/Education programs.
Eligibility
- Citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom (Nigerians are fully eligible).
- Applying to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree (such as LL.M., MPhil in Law, or Ph.D.) at the University of Cambridge.
- Exceptional academic achievement (typically a First Class or strong Upper Second Class honours degree).
- Capacity to demonstrate transformative leadership potential and a commitment to improving the lives of others.
