Job Description
HBM Nigeria Plc is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to provide legal support across its business operations, with a strong focus on litigation, commercial contracts, legal risk, compliance and dispute resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the management of lawsuits, pre-litigation claims, regulatory claims and inquiries.
- Provide legal advice to business units and senior management.
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial and procurement contracts.
- Advise on legal, regulatory and compliance risks.
- Manage claims, disputes, negotiations, mediation and arbitration.
- Coordinate external law firms and legal counsel.
- Support permits and licences required for plant operations.
- Conduct legal risk assessments and provide recommendations.
- Advise on corporate governance, competition law, labour law and other commercial matters.
- Manage the company's contract management system.
- Support legal compliance training and implementation of the Code of Business Conduct.
- Conduct due diligence for commercial transactions.
Requirements
- LL.B degree and qualification to practise as a Nigerian lawyer.
- Minimum 5 years of post-call experience, particularly in litigation.
- Experience gained in a top law firm.
- Experience in a multinational business environment or commercial law firm is an advantage.
- Strong experience in legal advisory, contract drafting and vetting.
- Knowledge of compliance, risk and contract management.
- Strong legal and business negotiation skills.
