Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2025

Hungarian Government

International Fully Funded Deadline: Jan 15, 2026

About the Scholarship

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2025-2026, established by the Hungarian Government, is a fully funded program designed to promote international education and cultural exchange by supporting students from over 90 partner countries. Coordinated by the Tempus Public Foundation, it offers tuition-free education at 31 Hungarian higher education institutions, covering approximately 800 programs in English and other languages across disciplines like engineering, medicine, arts, social sciences, and agriculture. Scholars receive a monthly stipend (HUF 43,700 for bachelor’s/master’s, HUF 140,000-180,000 for doctoral students), free dormitory accommodation or a HUF 40,000 monthly housing contribution, and comprehensive medical insurance. The program fosters global collaboration, providing access to Hungary’s vibrant academic community, cultural heritage, and central European location, ideal for networking and internships. Scholars join an alumni network for ongoing professional development, enhancing career prospects. The scholarship supports sustainable development by equipping graduates to address global challenges like climate change and poverty in their home countries.

With a competitive selection process, the program attracts over 60,000 applicants annually, selecting around 11,000 scholars. It includes language preparatory courses for non-English programs and cultural integration activities, ensuring a holistic experience. Doctoral candidates benefit from research opportunities with world-class supervisors, while bachelor’s and master’s students gain practical skills through industry partnerships. The Stipendium Hungaricum strengthens Hungary’s role as a global education hub, offering a unique blend of academic rigor and cultural immersion for talented international students.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be citizens of an eligible partner country (listed on stipendiumhungaricum.hu). For bachelor’s programs, candidates need a secondary school certificate with excellent grades. Master’s applicants require a bachelor’s degree, and doctoral candidates need a master’s degree, both with a strong academic record (minimum CGPA equivalent to 3.0/4.0). Applicants cannot have previously received a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship for the same study level. English proficiency (IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 80, or equivalent) is required unless the previous degree was taught in English. Doctoral applicants must secure a supervisor’s acceptance statement. Candidates must be nominated by their home country’s sending partner (e.g., ministry of education). Age limits may apply (typically under 40 for non-doctoral programs). Applicants must commit to returning to their home country post-study to contribute to development. Specific university requirements, such as entrance exams or portfolios, may also apply depending on the chosen program.
