About the scholarship

The Justice TechNG Hackathon and Accelerator 2025 is an innovative program in Nigeria aimed at fostering technology-driven solutions to improve access to justice and legal services. Organized by local tech hubs and justice reform advocates, it brings together developers, legal professionals, entrepreneurs, and students to collaborate on creating digital tools, such as mobile apps for legal aid, AI-powered chatbots for dispute resolution, or platforms for tracking court cases. Participants in the hackathon compete in teams over 48-72 hours, presenting prototypes to a panel of judges for cash prizes (up to NGN 5 million) and entry into a 3-6 month accelerator program. The accelerator provides seed funding (up to NGN 10 million), mentorship from tech and legal experts, and access to co-working spaces to refine and scale solutions.

The program addresses Nigeria’s justice gap, where millions lack access to affordable legal services, by leveraging technology to empower marginalized communities. Participants gain exposure to Nigeria’s growing tech ecosystem, networking opportunities with investors, and training in product development and pitching. Successful projects may secure partnerships with NGOs, government agencies, or international organizations like the UN. The initiative promotes social impact, encouraging solutions that tackle issues like gender-based violence, land disputes, or prison overcrowding, while fostering entrepreneurship and civic engagement among Nigeria’s youth.

Eligibility

Participants must be residents of Nigeria, aged 18 or older, with a background or interest in technology, law, or social justice. Teams of 3-6 members are required for the hackathon, with at least one member having coding skills (e.g., proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or mobile app development). Legal knowledge is an asset but not mandatory. Students, professionals, or entrepreneurs are eligible, with no specific academic degree required. Applicants must register online, submitting a team profile and a brief concept note outlining their proposed solution. For the accelerator, hackathon winners or shortlisted teams must demonstrate a viable prototype and commitment to developing their project. Participants need access to a laptop and reliable internet for the hackathon. Selection prioritizes creativity, technical feasibility, and potential social impact. International residents may participate if partnered with a Nigerian team member.
