Job Description

Alaro City is looking to hire a Legal and Compliance Manager to provide technical legal support, compliance oversight, and risk management input across its real estate, infrastructure, and development operations. You’ll play a key role in contractual, governance, regulatory, and compliance work in a major urban development environment.

The role combines strong legal drafting, risk analysis, corporate governance support, and compliance program development with collaboration across departments to ensure lawful, ethical, and compliant business conduct.

Key Responsibilities

Legal & Contractual Work
• Draft and review legal documents, contracts, term sheets, and corporate agreements, including lease, procurement, utilities, construction, and financing contracts. 
• Identify and suggest mitigation for legal risk factors in existing and prospective transactions. 
• Provide litigation and legal drafting support to the Head of Legal. 
• Assist in corporate governance functions including preparation of board materials, minutes, and resolutions. 
• Assist with company secretarial functions like statutory filings and record updates.

Compliance & Risk Management
• Monitor Nigerian and sector-specific legislation and advise on business impact. 
• Support preparation and submission of regulatory filings. 
• Undertake periodic compliance audits and track remediation of issues. 
• Help develop and update internal compliance policies and procedures. 
• Coordinate and deliver compliance training on topics such as anti-bribery, AML, and conflicts of interest.

Team Leadership & Collaboration
• Supervise and mentor junior legal and compliance staff. 
• Support legal and compliance departmental budget and resources in collaboration with Heads of Department.

Requirements

Technical Skills & Experience
• Minimum 10 years of core legal experience. 
• Called to the Nigerian Bar with strong technical ability in real estate/property law, utilities (power, water), infrastructure, and corporate/commercial transactions.

Soft Skills
• Excellent communication and analytical skills. 
• Results-oriented, with strong commercial judgment and attention to detail. 
• High energy, initiative driven, and able to work under pressure. 
• Ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a dynamic environment.

Organisational Skills
• Effective planning and documentation skills. 
• Good IT proficiency and ability to use legal and document management tools.
