Job Description

Job Summary

  • In this role, you will provide expert legal representation and advice on business disputes, arbitration, mediation, litigation, and alternative dispute resolution.
  • You will work closely with clients to understand their needs, develop strategies, and represent them both in and out of court.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in dispute resolution, excellent negotiation skills, and experience handling complex legal matters.

Key Responsibilities 
Legal Advisory and Counsel:

  • Advise clients on a broad range of disputes, including commercial, contractual, construction, real estate, labour, tenancy, and regulatory matters.
  • Provide clients with clear and effective strategies to resolve disputes through litigation, arbitration, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.

Litigation and Arbitration Representation:

  • Represent clients in court, tribunals, and arbitrary forums in connection with commercial and civil disputes.
  • Prepare legal pleadings, motions, and other court filings as required.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR):

  • Facilitate mediation and settlement negotiations to achieve favorable outcomes for clients.
  • Advise clients on the benefits and risks of using ADR mechanisms, including negotiation, conciliation, and mediation

Client Relationship Management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients by providing excellent service and timely legal advice.
  • Understand client objectives and provide strategic guidance on risk management and dispute resolution.

Business Development:

  • Support the firm’s business development activities by networking, attending industry events, and contributing to marketing efforts related to dispute resolution services.
  • Develop and maintain a strong professional network to generate new business opportunities.

Case Management and Strategy Development:

  • Conduct detailed legal research and case analysis to formulate effective dispute strategies.
  • Develop case strategies that balance legal risks and potential outcomes to achieve the best result for the client.

Requirements

Requirements

  • A Law Degree (LLB) from a reputable university.
  • Bachelor of Laws (B.L) from Nigerian Law School
  • 6-8 years post call experience, with a focus on dispute resolution, including both litigation and ADR.
  • Demonstrable experience in handling complex commercial disputes, including contract disputes, business litigation, construction, intellectual property, real estate, and regulatory matters.
  • Experience representing clients in arbitration and mediation, particularly in a cross-border or multi-jurisdictional context, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations governing dispute resolution in the jurisdiction.
  • Experience drafting legal documents such as pleadings, motions, arbitration submissions, and settlement agreements.
