About the Scholarship

The AUC African Graduate Fellowship is a competitive, fully funded master’s scholarship offered by the American University in Cairo (AUC) for high-achieving students from non-Egyptian African countries who want to pursue full-time graduate study in any discipline at AUC. Recipients benefit from comprehensive support that typically includes tuition coverage, a monthly stipend, health insurance, student services fees, and accommodation or a housing allowance on the AUC New Cairo campus. The fellowship is usually awarded for up to five semesters plus one summer session (with possible extension for some programs) and is renewable each semester based on satisfactory academic performance. The American University in Cairo Fellowship is awarded for a maximum duration of five semesters and one intervening summer session, with a review every semester for satisfactory academic performance.

Each year, fellowships are offered to nationals of African countries (not including Egyptians) for full-time study; nine credits or as required by the program in any of the graduate programs offered at the AUC.

For the Counseling Psychology graduate program, the duration may be extended to a maximum of seven semesters.

To be eligible, applicants must be non-Egyptian African nationals admitted to an AUC graduate program and meet AUC’s admissions and English proficiency requirements. Continuing fellows are expected to maintain a minimum GPA, and the fellowship considers both academic merit and financial need. The program represents a strong opportunity for African students to earn an advanced degree in a globally recognized institution with significant financial barriers removed.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the American University in Cairo Graduate Fellowships, applicants must be:

• Applicants must be non-Egyptian African nationals.

African nationals with dual non-African nationality are not eligible to apply.

• The fellowship is open to all disciplines of graduate study offered at AUC.

• Applicants must be new graduate degree-seeking students and must have secured admission into one of AUC’s graduate programs, meeting all AUC graduate admission requirements.

• Applicants must submit a valid International TOEFL iBT or Academic IELTS score that meets AUC’s graduate admissions cut-off scores.

Continuing students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 to retain the fellowship.

Now That You’ve Gotten That Interview...

Now that you’ve gotten that interview, congratulations. You are already halfway there. Getting to the interview stage means your application stood out and caught someone’s attention. But now, it is time to do the real work. The interview is where your story meets your voice. This is where you get to prove that everything they read about you on paper is real. The first thing you should do is research. Look for information about that kind of interview. Find people who have done similar interviews, whether for the same company or for similar roles in other organisations. Learn from their experiences and try to understand the kind of questions that are usually asked. If the company has given you information on what to prepare for, stick to that and build around it. But if not, find the closest match online or from people in your network. This gives you a sense of direction.Go further and prepare for other possible questions. Write out sample questions and structure your answers around them. However, do not over-rehearse. Be flexible enough to pivot when a question catches you off guard. If you have prepared well, you can adapt your existing ideas to fit new questions.Remember that first impressions matter. When they say, “Tell us about yourself,” or any other opening question, that is your chance to set the tone. Prepare a solid answer that reflects your journey and shows that you are undoubtedly suitable for the role. Make it comprehensive yet natural. If a question catches you off guard, stay calm and composed. You do not have to know everything. Take a brief moment to think, say what you can, and move on confidently. Do not let one tough question throw you off balance. What matters most is how quickly you recover and maintain your confidence. Finally, keep in mind that an interview is not just a test of what you know but how well you communicate it.
