Senior Litigators

Requirements

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from a recognized university, and Call to the Nigerian Bar (BL).
• Substantial post-qualification litigation experience (usually 8–12 years, or more) in a reputable law firm or in-house legal department, handling complex commercial, appellate, or constitutional litigation.
• Demonstrable record of courtroom experience across trial courts, Court of Appeal, and ideally the Supreme Court (or equivalent appellate courts).
• Strong drafting skills: ability to prepare appellate and respondent briefs, notices of appeal, pleadings, motions, legal opinions, statements, etc., with high standard of precision.
• Excellent legal research skills; the ability to interpret statutes, case law, legal precedents and to apply them persuasively.
• Capacity to supervise and mentor junior lawyers and litigation team members—lead teams, manage case workflows, coordinate with external counsel.
• Superior oral advocacy and negotiation skills; capable of arguing motions, hearings and negotiating settlements when necessary.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, attention to detail, with capacity to manage multiple cases with competing deadlines.
• Good business acumen: understanding the commercial implications of litigation strategies, cost management, risk assessment.
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), professional demeanor, integrity, and ability to work under pressure.
• Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with changes in case law, legislation, and judicial practice.
