- Conduct due diligence, title searches, and land registry verifications at state and local planning authorities. Manage the perfection of land titles, including Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), Governor’s Consent, and Deed registrations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal agreements, including Contracts of Sale, Deeds of Assignment, Joint Venture Agreements, Tenancy/Lease Agreements, and contractor contracts.
- Oversee land acquisition matters, resolve boundary issues, manage community/family interactions regarding land ownership, and manage property-related legal risk.
- Ensure strict adherence to national and state real estate laws, land use regulations, urban planning guidelines, and corporate governance codes.
- Serve as the primary legal liaison between the company, government authorities, community stakeholders, external counsel, and land registries.
- Manage corporate legal disputes, liaise with external litigation attorneys, and represent the organization’s interests effectively.
- Provide proactive, sound legal counsel to management regarding property acquisition, strategic real estate investments, and general corporate matters.
Requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Call to the Nigerian Bar (BL).
- Minimum of 5 years of post-call active experience, with a heavy and proven track record in real estate, land transactions, and property law.
- In-depth understanding of Nigerian land law, the Land Use Act, real estate property conveyancing, and Ogun State land registry procedures.
- Hands-on experience dealing with land registries, government planning agencies, and community land matters.
- Exceptional drafting, contract negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills and professional integrity.
- Ability to work independently under tight deadlines and navigate complex regulatory environments.
